This converted barn consists of two bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen and upstairs sitting room.  It is centrally heated and beautifully decorated with pine ceilings, floors and furnishings.

 

Access to the building from the front is by the traditionally styled half door, with a side entrance through the kitchen by a patio door.

 

The kitchen is equipped with a fridge, electric hob and fan assisted oven, microwave and automatic washing machine. All pots, pans, kitchen utensils and crockery are supplied.  The kitchen has also an old style solid fuel stove in an antique fireplace surround and a tiled floor.

 

Stairs from the kitchen area lead to an upstairs sitting area with sofa and easy chairs.  This Sitting Room has TV points and a well-stocked bookshelf. This room has a beautiful view of the lake and the South Armagh and Cooley Mountains

 

The fully tiled bathroom has a wash hand basin, toilet and shower

 

Both of the bedrooms have matching pine furniture to augment the pine ceilings and floors. The bedrooms also have TV points.

All bedding, towels etc; is supplied.

 

Outside there is a private area with planned barbecue area.

 

There is ample car parking space available

 

Area / Location

The Rath Barn is situated on a small farm half a mile up a quiet bye road off the main Newry / Hilltown Road (B8) the Mourne Inland Scenic Route in the foothills of the Mourne Mountain range.

It is four miles from Newry and two miles from the Village of Mayobridge .

The property has unrestricted access to Derrylecka Lake . 

It is only 10 minutes from Newry, 10 minutes from Warrenpoint, 30 minutes from Newcastle , 45 — 60 minutes from Belfast , two hours from Dublin

 

Situated inside an Ancient Rath

This location endeared itself to the first settlers who came to Ireland centuries ago.  The area abounds in ancient remains, forts, cashels and raths.   Indeed the cottage is itself situated right in the middle of what was once an ancient ring fort with a nearby souterrain, which has never been explored.

 

Accommodation Rates:

The price includes electricity, oil heating, bed linen and towels.

 

Low Season           £200.00 per week

June and September

High Season          £250.00 per week

July, August, Easter & Christmas

Weekend                £125.00

Easter & Christmas £25.00 extra

 

Arrival time is 4.00pm on the 1st day and departure time is 10.30am on the last day

 

A week is normally from Saturday evening until Saturday morning (7 nights)

 (If the Rath Barn is not required on a Saturday you are welcome to stay until evening)

 

A weekend is normally from Friday until Sunday morning  (If the Rath Barn is not required on a Sunday you are welcome to stay until evening)

BOOKING AND LETTING CONDITIONS

Deposit

All booking applications must be accompanied by a £50 per week deposit. 

The deposit is accepted as part payment and the balance should be paid not less than 30 days before the start of the holiday.  The deposit is normally non-refundable although it will be refunded if the accommodation can be re-let

Balance

The Rath Barn must receive the balance of the money 30 days before the commencement of the holiday.  Non-compliance with the condition will result in automatic cancellation of the holiday booking and forfeiture of the deposit.

Refundable Deposit

A refundable deposit of £30 should be included in the balance due in respect of the booking.  The refundable deposit is in respect of damage to and/or loss of cottage equipment or contents.  Forfeiture of the deposit will occur if the management on its inspection prior to your departure discovers loss or damage.  The balance, if any, due on such loss or damage in excess of £30 must be paid prior to departure.

The Rath Barn must be left as found — crockery, pots, pans etc. must be clean and fit for use by the next clients.  Failure to comply with this condition will result in forfeiture of the deposit.

Faults / damage already occurring must be reported in advance.

 

Cancellation

Cancellation of a booking should be given in writing.  If this notice is received 30 days or more before the starting date of the holiday only the deposit of £50 will be forfeited.  If the notice is received less than 30 days before the starting date of the holiday the full rental charge will be forfeited unless the cottage is re-let.

Getting There From Newry:

At Newry Courthouse, take the B8 from Newry towards Rathfriland /Hilltown. At the roundabout a mile from Newry go on straight towards Hilltown, about one mile past The Cove Bar take the road to the right (Aughnagon Rd) 3½— 4 miles from Newry

The Rath Barn is half a mile on the right hand side beside road. 

 

From Warrenpoint

From Duke Street, take the B7 past St Marks School to the junction at Milltown, turn right and continue through Burren, past the Heritage Centre and take the next road on the left, (Derrylecka Road) proceed about 200 yards, take the fork to the right and continue on that road (Aughnagun Road) which runs parallel to the Derrylecka Road, continue on that road (taking care not to go on to the Derrylecka Road again) for about 1½ miles and you’ll find the Rath Barn on your left.
